I adore Luis Fernando Verissimo’s writings. I have a series of books of his that are themed collections of short stories and articles in Portuguese. They’re all hilarious. The Club of Angels was the first novel of his that I’ve read. It’s a masterfully crafted book, but left me feeling agitated, unsettled, annoyed, upset. Not quite the enticing, happy, escape-from-reality read that I was looking for. Rather dark, actually.
