About This Blog:
May 2008–
I’ve decided it’s time to get down to business. Time to get serious. Serious about two things:
1) cooking
2) taking advantage of the fact that I live in San Diego (since I’m leaving in August to spend my final year of college in Spain and may never return to live in SD again! how sad/scary!)
Thought I’d create a blog to document all this “seriousness”/”business”/”research and development”. Haha.
I named it “I Say No To Top Ramen”, because I feel like that’s the stereotypical college student food. Before I came to college, everyone was like, oh yea home cooked meals are such a treat, when you go to college you’re just going to eat ramen. I do find myself being lazy and eating cereal and snacky food a lot, but I protest against that. Just because I’m in college doesn’t mean I have to eat package food or fast food at every meal…

August 2008–
I’m in Madrid! So I’m adding a ‘Spain’ tab and continuing to blog. =) I’m experiencing ham, the cold, and olive oil on a whole new level.

July 2009–
I’m back from Spain and my cooking skills and creativity have severly suffered from being in a country with such small limited grocery stores. And a city with such a sub-par restaurant scene. As much as I adore Madrid….I went to the new Berkeley Bowl (a grocery store here) yesterday and couldn’t have been happier to be back. I felt the creative juices flowing again haha. All the Jamon Serrano just wasn’t doing it for me.
About Me:
May 2008–
I walk around in my pajamas a lot and am very prone to lose things.
I laugh a lot. I like other people who also laugh a lot.
I avoid making phone calls whenever possible.
I’m a student at UCSD majoring in International Studies: Economics and Linguistics.
There are two things I’m determined to get in life: a job at Google as a Localization Specialist and a six-pack. Haha. I really like the Libreria Ghandi ad campaign, especially their 2003 espectaculares. Their ads are ingenious. Oh I also want a motorcycle, but I know that’ll never fly with my folks. Oh well. I’ll just have to keep wishing to be able to tele-transport.
I’m slightly obsessed with Brazilian Portuguese, and I want to go to Brazil and do a Che Guevara-esque tour through the rest of South America (just the motorcycle, not the politics). I also want to go to Turkey. But for now, while I’m in San Diego for 12 more weeks, I’m going make the most of it.
If I ever have kids (which I promised myself I wouldn’t) I plan for them to grow up tri-lingual.
I really like lamb and tortas al pastor.
I think it’s hilarious when people learning English make names of meat plural–”Would you like some ducks?” “I really like lambs”.
This is a blog about things that I vote NO on and things I vote YES on. I’m not registered to vote. But I do a lot of voting in my personal life– I vote YES to Short Ribs Braised in Coffee Ancho Chile Sauce, and I vote NO to Parmesan-Crusted Sweet Potato Wedges. Haha.

More about me:
My dream to go to Brazil is finally coming true! I’ll be there for 6 weeks this summer. I’m really grateful for this opportunity.
I anticipated a lot of Spain withdrawl but I don’t have any. I want to say I just adjust quickly, but for me it’s as if there hasn’t even been a change. It’s almost as if I hadn’t ever left. Hmm. I was happy there, I’m happy here, y ya está.
I no longer walk around in my pajamas so much hahaha. Ok maybe that’s a lie. But I’d like to think my sense of style matured significantly in Spain. I have Kelly to thank/blame for the excessive presence of Zara in my closet now.

November 2009–
This ended up being my last quarter in San Diego, and I have none of the desperation to explore San Diego that drove me to begin this blog, partially because I’m on a tighter budget than ever, and partially because I’m busier than any other quarter. I’ve barely had time to cook, hence all the quick recipes and lack of quality posts.
I still love to cook, but I simply don’t have the time that I did in previous quarters. I dunno. So I’m not quite as crazy about food and cooking as when I lived with Diana. I remember telling her that there were 2 reasons I wanted to get married:
1) So I would have someone to cook for every night, and
2) Because I’d get all sorts of cool kitchen things as wedding gifts
hahahahah.
